Spinning Theory
Spinning Theory is an interactive class on the theory behind spinning wool and other fibers. You’ll receive a brief history of spinning and spinning tools, handle different fibers and learn about their sources, participate in an interactive demonstration of the science behind the craft, and leave with your very own, handmade-by-you yarn! Think of this class as the class you take BEFORE your first spinning class - perfect for beginners, but educational to those who have already started on the drop spindle and want to learn a little more about the “why” behind the “how”.
Wellness in Community
Wellness in Community is an open house dedicated to showcasing the many diverse wellness-focused businesses in the historic Montgomery Ward building. There will be chair massages, yoga demonstrations, delicious food and so much more! Here at Homespun, located in the basement level of the building, we'll be offering a full afternoon of events that you won't want to miss:
1:30pm: "Happy Where We Are" - local gardener, dyer and all-around fiber expert Jody Frey will be giving a half-hour talk exploring the idea that creative practice isn’t only about knitting hats, but also growing our own wellness, happiness and contentment.
2:30pm to 4pm: Interactive fiber demonstrations - learn how spinning, weaving and other fiber crafts have been used to bridge differences, strengthen connections and build community throughout history.
1-4pm: Community scarf - please drop in to knit or crochet a row (or more!) on the scarf - a variety of knitting needles, crochet hooks and yarn will be provided to accommodate any level of expertise or creative vision. Let's pool our collective experience to make something beautiful together as a community!
